700 Gate Gourmet Workers Apply For Redundancy

700 Gate Gourmet Workers Apply For Redundancy: "Gate Gourmet, the troubled caterer to British Airways, has received applications for redundancy from 700 current and former employees, union officials said on Sunday, but they stressed no final decisions had been made.
About 300 of the applications came from staff fired last month, while a further 400 came from employees still working at Gate Gourmet, according to comments made by Tony Woodley, general secretary of the Transport & General Workers' Union, at the Trades Union Congress conference in Brighton.
'There's some detailed analysis that needs to go on now because, of those 700, it may be that some of them won't be allowed to go because of the particular job that they do,' a spokesman for the TGWU said.
Gate Gourmet sacked staff last month, triggering wildcat strikes by its own staff and workers at BA, which led to the cancellation of more than 700 flights at London's Heathrow Airport.
The caterer is seeking to cut 670 jobs from its 2,000-strong workforce to ensure its financial survival.
Creditors have given Gate Gourmet, owned by US private equity firm Texas Pacific Group, until next Monday to meet their demands or face asset seizures, a source close to talks said this week."
