CANNES. The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association has highlighted its endorsement for industry activities including the China Travel Retail Summit organised by The Moodie Report as well as an event to be held in India by Alpha Asia.

The association�s President Rakhita Jayawardena told reporters today that support for industry events will be one of the association�s priorities for the year.

It will also support the global tobacco industry against plans by governments to abolish tobacco sales in travel retail, as well as improve communication between the association and its members which it hopes to grow from 31 to 50 by next May.

Noting that there is an obvious gap in arrivals duty free shopping in Japan and South Korea, Jayawardena added: �We are preparing a position paper supporting the introduction of arrivals duty free in these countries. There is great potential for our industry in these markets.� "
